Our topic this term is ‘All About Me’

During this topic we will be learning about ourselves, including our families, what we look like, and our similarities and differences to other people.

The children will be creating self-portraits, counting how many people live in their house, discussing what makes them happy and sad, and taking part in obstacle courses. We will also be exploring how we are similar or different from each other.

🏠 Home learning ideas:

• Make pizza faces.

• Look at your family photos.

• Create a self portrait with craft materials, pasta, paint, or anything you have at home.

Staff changes

As some of you are already aware, Linda has had some ongoing health issues and has decided it’s time to move on from pre-school. Therefore, she will not be returning but thanks you all for your best wishes. She is doing well and has made a great start in her recovery.

We are recruiting a new member of staff and have shared a job advertisement on Facebook. Please feel free to share it on your social media account to help us find a new addition to our team.

Disable bay parking - The parking space at the top of the car park is for disabled people only. It may also be used for families with babies where there are spaces available.

Fundraising

Before the summer holidays the children took part in a sponsored sports week. They raised an amazing £470! This money will be spent on expanding our home corner area in the playroom.

The committee is organising a halloween party to be held in the holidays. It will be on Thursday 29th October at pre-school. More details to come soon.

• Pre-School closes  on Friday 23rd October and reopens on Monday 2nd November

Our topic this term is 'Growth and Nature’ 🐛🦋 

We will be exploring what people, animals and plants need to grow and talking about healthy eating and exercise. The children will also be planting and growing with the volunteers from Hopton in Bloom, and measuring themselves on our height chart. 

We also have five little caterpillars at pre-school. The children will watch them grow, feed them and see them change into beautiful butterflies. 

🏠 Home learning ideas:  

• Borrow our ‘Outdoor Scavenger Hunt’ home learning pack 

• Go on a minibeast hunt 

• Do some gardening and planting 

• Collect natural objects and create a picture with them 

Fundraising 📚 

We recently received a donation of £215 from Mirfield Masonic Lodge. We have used some of this money already to buy new books and replace some of our older books. With the rest we will purchase new group time activity resources, including story sacks and puppets. Thank you to Mirfield Masonic Lodge. 

Our Easter raffle raised a brilliant £200! Some of this money has been spent on new mark marking resources, new cushions for the children to sit on in group times, and minibeast hunting supplies for our topic on growth and nature. 

Outdoor Play 🌞 

John has kindly painted and built our new outdoor playhouse and the children are loving it! 

Now that the weather is improving, please remember to send suncream and sunhats with your child on warm days. 

Key dates 📆:  

• Bank Holiday – Pre-School is closed on Monday 4th May 

• Polling day – Pre-school is closed on Thursday 7th May as Croft House is used as a polling station. 

• Pre-School closes  on Friday 22nd May and reopens Monday 1st June.
